Greivis Vasquez has a name for Duke’s fabled Cameron Indoor Stadium — one that will likely to draw him plenty of taunting from the Blue Devils’ raucous student body, known as the Cameron Crazies.

“That’s my house,” the junior guard said. “I love going in there. It’s going to be fun.”

How enjoyable Vasquez and the Terrapins’ trip to one of college basketball’s most illustrious venues remains to be seen. Maryland (13-5, 2-2 ACC) is a decided underdog Saturday at noon against the second-ranked Blue Devils (17-1, 4-0) — who are a 11-0 in Durham, N.C., while Maryland is winless in two ACC road games this season.

“We just have to keep up our toughness and keep getting better,” Terps coach Gary Williams said. “I like these guys, I like coaching them.”

Vasquez’s love affair with the venue was formed two years ago when, as a freshman, he had 13 points and 12 assists as he was being taunted in Spanish by Duke fans to lead his team to a 85-77 victory.

“They’re very smart down smart down there,” Williams quipped. “They figure Greivis is from Venezuela, so that means he knows Spanish. It’s amazing.”

The Terrapins, who are led by Vasquez (17 ppg), forward Landon Milbourne (12.6 ppg) and guard Adrian Bowie (11.0 ppg), are coming off a much-needed, 84-78 victory over Virginia to end a two-game losing streak.

Duke counters with one of the most prolific offenses the Terrapins will face this season, as it features four players who average at least 10 points per game — forward Kyle Singler (16.8), forward Gerald Henderson (14.4), guard Jon Scheyer (13.2) and guard Nolan Smith (10.3).

Cameron Crazies sold their soul to get on tv rather than learn the game of basketball? Beilein was the winner. My successful son could get into Duke if he wanted to but is not a nerd? FREDTERP

Fredterp.........I'm sure your son could get into Duke, just look at your last sentence. Maybe you need a grammar lesson, you can't spell Terrapin without NIT.

I have a feeling Vasquez will recieve a special greeting from Cameron tomorrow. The man plays with a huge heart though. What I find interesting is Williams' comment, which is a very intelligent...for a MD guy. Sweat!!!

One of the little things you might not notice about Duke basketball, but which is a telling detail, is that you'll rarely hear anyone call more than one syllable. So it's Shav, Shel, Chris, and so on. It's a smart principle, and a sign of the level of organization the program thrives on: yelling Shelden is less effective and takes longer than yelling Shel. We're not saying Shel is what they call for Shelden, but you get the point. That's an important thing at Duke.

I anticipate that this is Gary Williams' Farewell Tour. In the 7 years since the Turtles last championship, that program has been in a very downhill spiral. Another year without a tournament bid and Gary's done! It doesn't help that the Athletic Director doesn't care for him.

Can you imagine how much Vasquez would be hated if he played for Duke?

The Terps are in freefall and are probably the worst team in the ACC right now. They're an NIT team and Gary has about had it. I never thought this could happen but this program is in the toilet. A punk like Vasquez does not help matters.
