LB Washington can’t shake off the injury bug

ASHBURN — Marcus Washington entered the season optimistic that his injury misfortunes had changed. They haven’t. And now comes another one: Washington will miss at least a week and likely more with a high ankle sprain.

Washington suffered the injury in the second quarter of the Redskins’ 14-10 loss to Dallas Sunday night. High ankle sprains, unless they’re mild, can sideline players for at least four weeks.

It’s the sixth body part Washington has injured in the past two years. Considering his injuries — he’s missed a combined eight games in the past three seasons — and age (31) and next year’s salary cap figure ($4.5 million), Washington could be elsewhere in 2009.

Second-year H.B. Blades likely will replace Washington against Seattle on Sunday. He’s quick, but is generously listed at 5-foot-10.

One thing the Redskins won’t do, coach Jim Zorn said, is use end Jason Taylor more as a linebacker to have him rush. Taylor did this Sunday night several times as well as in the past in Miami.

Meanwhile, corner Shawn Springs (calf) is expected to be ready for Seattle. However, he was also listed as probable for Sundays’ game vs. Dallas only to miss his fourth straight game.
