Southern Utah wins 37-32 over San Diego

SAN DIEGO — Cade Cooper threw for 273 yards and three touchdowns, as Southern Utah held on for a 37-32 win over San Diego on Saturday night.

Southern Utah (5-6) took a 34-20 lead on Cooper's second touchdown pass to Tyson Poots late in the third quarter. Cooper finished 22-of-31 passing and Poots had 10 catches for 149 yards.

San Diego freshman Bo Stompro threw two TD passes in the fourth quarter to bring the Toreros back to within five with five minutes left.

Stompro, who completed 24-of-38 passes for 247 yards, threw a career-high five touchdown passes as San Diego (4-7) had its first losing record since 2000.

The Thunderbirds gained 507 yards in total offense, including 197 yards on the ground. Ryan Griffith kicked three field goals to break the school's single-season record with 15.
