Nats - Strasburg drama just made for sport talk radio

08/17/09 2:15 PM EDT

Today is one of the most important days in the history of the Washington Nationals. Before the stroke of midnight the team must sign first round draft choice pitcher Stephen Strasburg. It is big local story that has become a national story.
Locally sports talk radio stations ESPN 980AM and The Fan 106.7FM have been talking about what signing Strasburg means to the Nationals future. The stud pitcher has been offered a record deal that could be in excess of $20 million dollars.
Will he become a National or not?
One thing we do know is that it will be a last minute deal coming just before midnight.
The only local station that will be talking Strasburg and taking calls locally.
Give credit to 106.7FM The Fan for being the only local station to cover the story till it ends.
Pete Medhurst, Joe Miller and Grant Paulsen will focus their 106.7FM The Fan program on the Strasburg – Nationals signing. They will extend the program two additional hours to cover the midnight deadline.
With the Nationals having the day off WTOP 103.5FM will handle the coverage from the Nationals radio standpoint. They will offer updates in their 15 and 45 sportscast s. But they will break-in to the news at anytime to report what has happened as soon it happens.
ESPN Radio and Sirius – XM Home Plate have coverage all the way up till the deadline passes at midnight.
Nationally MLB Tonight Roundtripper at 10p.m. on the MLB Network will cover the story as will ESPNEWS.
