The Examiner
As we have reported in this column and along with DCRTV it became official today. WJFK-FM 106.7 will go all sports come Monday taking on ESPN 980AM.
The line – up looks like this:
5:00-10:00AM:            The Sports Junkies
10:00AM-2:00PM:      Mike Wise and Bill Rohland
2:00-6:00PM:               Lavar Arrington and Chad Dukes
The station will air FOX Sports radio programming to fill out the evening, late nights and weekend portions of the schedule.
Super producer Chris Johnson will return to the area to handle the duties on the afternoon drive time show with Lavar Arrington and Chad Dukes. Johnson’s producing and programming skills helped make The John Thompson Show successful on WTEM.
The all local format of The Fan 106.7 will put the entertaining Sports Junkies up against the network programming of Mike and Mike in the Morning in the all important morning drive time slot. Then Mike Wise and Bill Rohland will face off against Colin Coward from 10a.m. to 2p.m.
I would have to say that it will be advantage Sports Junkies as well as Wise and Rohland. Local sports talk in Washington if done right will trump the national offerings.
The afternoon shift will be more challenging for the new sports talker.
Wise and Rohland will face two hours of The Locker Room with Kevin Sheehan on ESPN 980AM.
The most interesting slot will have Arrington and Dukes up against The John Thompson Show with Doc Walker and then The Sports Reporters with Andy Pollin and Steve Czaban.
Both stations offering local programming all afternoon with very diverse personalities it should be some fun listening for Washington area sports fans.
Much more to come as we actually get to hear these guys.

What a shame. A unique station goes down to corporate group think.
Hopefully the Big O Dukes show will pop up somewhere else, soon.
No matter, in a few years we'll be downloading podcast straight into our cars, and ye ole antenna radio will die the death its deserved for years.

I loved this station and can't stand sports radio. Besides there is already a local sports station. I guess I better start looking into internet and satelite stations as there is no other station in the area that covers WJFK's old niche.

What a shame. I will miss the Mike O'Meara show. It was bad enough losing Don, now I've lost both guys. I'll have to search for another talk station thats not just sports or politics.

Nice proofreading, Jim. Coward? Try Cowherd. "Both stations offering local programming all afternoon with very diverse personalities it should be some fun listening for Washington area sports fans." Genius sentence!?!?

This is very bad news indeed. DC radio has been getting worse and worse every year with only a single rock station and not the one unique thing we had has been ground up and turned uber-corporate.

The Levar Arrington show was terrible and Dukes instead of being himself sounds like he is afraid of Levar or something.

I commute from Virginia to Baltimore and there is a "The Fan" station there too and it's an "ok" station; but I've been getting annoyed with their afternoon show "Scott & Anita".

I guess it's time for me to finally have to pay for radio cause I'm not going to be be able to handle the new WJFK.

Well now we have 2 bad sports stations in DC. The worst one owned by snyder. Why anyone would think this NY style radio would work is beyond me. You took a great station and ruined it. The new shows are garbage.

Lavar & Chad I heard you talk about kickers one of the best field kicker was Mark Moseley could kick from 40 yards in the rain & snow match his field goals and extra points with the soccer kickers. When Mark went to kick you knew that it was going to be good. Why cant we have a straight on kicker that will give us points that we know is going to count. Soccer kickers it like a grape shoot if a straight on kicker can gives us points when we need them so he cant kick it from 60 yards but we know we have any 3 points at 40 yards. Thank You I like your show.
