Caps Second Period Update

Caps 3, Islanders 3
Call it the Tomas Fleischmann and Frans Nielsen show. The pair each scored twice in the second period for their teams and we're all set for what should be a fun final period. Have to feel good for Fleischmann. He had a trying summer dealing with the blood clot in his left leg and missed all of training camp and the first three weeks of the season. Hasn't shown much rust so far, though. He had a couple excellent scoring chances Thursday in Atlanta and has been dangerous all night against the Islanders. His first goal was thanks to a turnover by Islanders goalie Dwayne Roloson behind the New York net. But Flash was opportunistic and finished the wrap-around chance.
His second was on the power play. A shot from the point scooted around in the crease and Fleischmann beat a couple of New York defenders to poke it home for a 3-2 lead. Only problem? Caps gave the momentum right back on Nielsen's second goal 67 seconds later at 17:50. New York buzzed in its offensive zone after that. We'll see if there's any carry over when the third period starts. Caps up 24-20 in the shots-on-goal total. Washington is 2-for-4 on the power play and has killed both of New York's man-advantage chances.
