Inspired by a local woman who faced breast cancer and survived, a new fashion collection is designed specifically for women who have experienced breast cancer, and is beautiful enough for all. The Alloro Collection is the brainchild of Laurel Kamen, who underwent a double mastectomy in 2011. She discovered elegant clothing was not available to women recovering from the treatment. With her friend and co-founder, Christine Irvin, they were determined to correct this fashion omission.

Beyond the punishing physical ordeal that women with breast cancer experience, the journey back can be challenging psychologically, as well. The Alloro Collection helps women move forward with fashion that addresses the changes in body contour, comfort and appearance that women undergoing treatments experience. Plus, 25 percent of profits will be given to breast cancer prevention and research.

A collection trunk show open to the public will take place Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Tabula Rasa (731 Eighth St. SE). For more information, visit allorocollection.com.
