A State Department spokesperson said reports that the U.S. ambassador to Haiti resigned following President Trump's "shithole countries" comments are false.
"Reports of personnel changes in Haiti are inaccurate. Our Charge d'Affaires Robin Diallo leads our mission there," a State official confirmed to the Washington Examiner.
Diallo, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, assumed her position last August and is serving until a replacement for the previous ambassador, Peter Mulrean, is appointed. Mulrean resigned in February 2017 after serving 16 months.
Michele Jeanne Sison was confirmed by a Senate voice vote in early November, but has not taken office.
Diallo will be designated deputy chief of mission for the United States Embassy in Haiti once an ambassador is officially appointed.
