Revenge solves everything, and it will make you smile.

"Dishonored" is a mind-blowing romp filled with political intrigue, plot twists and a plethora of stabbing.

As the famed Royal Protector, Corvo Attano was tasked with defending Dunwall Empress Jessamine Kaldwin. However, as part of a coup, the empress is slain, her daughter Emily taken and Corvo framed. After rotting in prison for months, the bodyguard-turned-assassin escapes and joins the resistance. There, the mystical Outsider imbues Corvo with magical powers that amplify his stealth and fighting skills.

Corvo learns to teleport, slow time, call a swarm of rats, send a wind blast and more.

Now bent on revenge, Corvo must take down the corrupt politicians who planned the coup and rescue Emily.

A first-person action adventure, "Dishonored" is mostly story-driven, with each of the missions solving pieces of the puzzle. The innovative gameplay and sandbox-style levels allow you to approach targets from multiple angles and exact your revenge in many different ways. Feeling stealthy? Sneak up and shove your blade through the person's back. Wrathful? Go in guns and magic blazing and lay waste to everyone. Or you can go the nonlethal route and not kill anyone at all -- there's an Achievement for that.

Along with the stellar gameplay, "Dishonored" has the looks and sounds to back it up. The plague-ridden city of Dunwall, modeled after Victorian London, has a bombed-out, ominous feel, and the distinct character designs give the steampunk stylings a solid footing. The moody sound track and sound effects are only surpassed by the talented vocal cast, which includes Susan Sarandon and Carrie Fisher.

"Dishonored" may be under 15 hours in length, but the game offers plenty of challenge and begs to be replayed -- alternate endings and multiple ways to dispatch complete each mission. If only the game let you take your souped-up Corvo into the earlier missions after beating the game.

But however you decide to play it, this creation by Arkane Studios lives up to the hype, and it's a beacon for innovative design in the gaming industry.
