Steve Scalise's Twitter account on Sunday posted photos of the House Majority Whip with his family, saying this Father's Day "has special meaning for the Scalise family."

Scalise has been hospitalized since Wednesday when he and other Republicans came under rifle fire while practicing baseball.

"Steve's greatest joy is being a father to Madison and Harrison, and a husband to Jennifer," the message reads. "This Father's Day has special meaning for the Scalise family, and they send their best wishes to every family, especially the dads. Take the time to be close with the ones you love. Thank you for the continued prayers, support and outpouring of love."

Scalise was shot in the hip, resulting in multiple surgeries. Over the weekend, his family said his condition had been upgraded from critical to serious.

"Congressman Steve Scalise is in serious condition," the family said in a statement. "He underwent another surgery today, but continues to show signs of improvement."

On Saturday night, Scalise's account said Scalise was watching the LSU baseball game and "rooting hard for a big Tigers win tonight!"
