During the Women in the World summit in New York today, U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice admitted that current Secretary of State John Kerry would never be able to fill the shoes of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“Secretary Kerry will be the first to admit that in some ways he can never fill Hillary’s heels,” she said as the crowd laughed.

“That’s his own language,” Rice added carefully.

Rice was President Obama’s first nominee for Secretary of State, but dropped out due to concerns from Senate Republicans about her role in the Obama administration’s response to the terrorist attacks in Benghazi.

“Can a man actually run the State Department? I don’t know,” Kerry said when he took his job as Secretary of State in February. “As the saying goes, I have big heels to fill.”

Rice was interviewed by MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell who asked her if women were marginalized in the Obama White House.

“In my experience, that’s a bogus criticism, to be quite honest,” Rice said flatly, explaining that Obama is “very very very comfortable” around “strong women with opinions.”
