According to federal prosecutors,food companies paid more than $2 million too much for tomatoes as the result of price fixing -- an expense likely passed on to consumers. The companies plunked down the extra millions for tomatoes bought from SK Foods after their buyers received thousands of dollars in bribes. Frederick Scott Salyer, the head of SK Foods, was sentenced Tuesday to six years in prison and three years probation for the price-fixing scam and ordered to forfeit at least $3.25 million held in foreign bank accounts.
