Think what you will of Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, but one thing is absolutely certain: He gives folks on the left a serious, maybe terminal, case of the Willies.

On Sunday's edition of MSNBC's "Disrupt with Karen Finney," somebody went into the archives and found some clips of the former Wisconsin senator speaking to the 1952 Republican presidential convention, then artfully spliced together clips from recent Cruz speeches and media appearances.

Presto! Ted Cruz is the new McCarthy!

Note, too, in Finney's very first sentence the "Cruz wants to take away your healthcare" and a little further on in the discussion the idea that Cruz is "delusional" for thinking President Obama might sign a continuing resolution that defunds Obamacare.

Finney is one of the rising stars at MSNBC and not only because she brings impressive debate-framing skills honed in her prior positions as spokesman for the Democratic National Committee and for First Lady Hillary Clinton.

That's what makes it fun to be a Finney guest, as I was yesterday, along with Michelle Cottle of the Daily Beast. The challenge is always getting beyond the rhetorical framing to the substantive points of agreement and disagreement.
