Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, promises that his first action as president of the United States will be to send flowers to reporters who will no doubt have checked themselves into therapy.
The senator's joke came during a town hall event late last week with radio host Jeff Kuhner.
"Let me start by saying if I'm elected, January 2017, I suppose the first thing I should do is send flowers and a note of condolences to all of the reporters and editors who've check themselves into therapy," he said, poking fun at the press' sometimes obvious dislike for the Texas lawmaker.
Footage of the event was published and widely circulated Monday by BuzzFeed.
The Texas senator and 2016 Republican had a second promise: If elected president, he would hold a Cuban pig roast on the South Lawn of the White House on December 24, 2017.
Cruz launched his presidential campaign in March, telling a crowded auditorium at Liberty University in Virginia that, "It is a time for truth, it is a time for liberty, it is a time to reclaim the Constitution of the United States."
