Rafael Cruz, father of popular Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, may have dashed the hopes of many conservatives when he told CNN’s Candy Crowley that he doesn’t believe his son will run for president.

“I don’t see him running for president,” the elder Cruz said as his son smiled next to him. “He is standing up for principle in the Senate and I am very proud of him doing that.”

Pressed by Crowley about whether he would like to see his son run for president, Mr. Cruz said “I think that is the future. Nobody knows what the future brings.”

Cruz’s father also said that politics had been a part of the family since the senator was eight or nine years old.
