An 18-year-old D.C. man was sentenced to four years in prison for robbing a woman of her dog at gunpoint.

Christopher Young approached the woman who was walking her Yorkshire Terrier in the area of 5th and Kennedy streets in Northeast Washington on the morning of Jan. 5.

He pulled out a handgun and said, "Give me your dog. Yorkies cost a lot of money," authorities said.

He grabbed the dog and fled.

The victim noticed that Young had dropped his phone next to where the dog's leash had dropped. While Young continued running, the dog escaped and ran to its home.

Officers determined the phone belonged to Young, and leaned that he had a GPS device on his ankle for a previous crime. The ankle bracelet monitoring placed him directly in the area at the time of the robbery.
