Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, who is facing Democratic state Sen. Wendy Davis in the state's gubernatorial race, denounced a local Democratic Party official who reportedly described Abbott's wife as a "prop" for Hispanic outreach.

"It's deeply offensive that a Democrat elected official called my Latina wife of 32 years a 'prop,' " Abbott tweeted in response to news of a politician who attacked Abbott for visiting Hispanics in the community. The tweet included a PJ Media post citing a source who quoted Lubbock City Councilman Victor Hernandez using that term in reference to Cecilia Abbott.

The news reports on Hernandez' criticism also contain some comments that look ridiculous in light of Abbott's marriage.

“If you want to come into my house, the first thing you have to do is to see me — see me as a person, see me as a human being, see me as a fellow Texan,” Hernandez said, according to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, when discussing Abbott's visit to a local restaurant. “See the Hispanic community as anything, anything other than a problem to be dealt with, or worse yet, to be dismissed.”
