Stone Temple Pilots in all-out war
The California-based rock band Stone Temple Pilots is falling apart, with members suing each other left and right.
It all started when frontman Scott Weiland was kicked out of the group in February, just a few weeks before he was scheduled to start a solo tour of STP songs -- and he learned of his ouster in the news!
According to the Washington Post, the press release was one sentence: The remaining band members -- Robert and Dean DeLeo and Eric Kretz -- "have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland." What a way to go! And on top of that, the trio already added a new member to front the band, Linkin Park's Chester Bennington.
But Scott isn't just going to lay down and take it. According to the Associated Press, Scott is countersuing his former bandmates: "How do you expel a man from a band that he started, named, sang lead on every song, wrote the lyrics, and was the face of for 20 years, and then try to grab the name and goodwill for yourselves," his complaint states. "You don't, but three of the instrumentalists from the band Stone Temple Pilots tried."
He filed the suit on Friday, after he himself had been sued by one of his former bandmates who's trying to get him to stop using STP's music for his solo performances.
Scott wants the three STP members to fork over $5 million for unlawfully kicking him out of the band and "damaging his solo career."
The band's lawyer, Skip Miller, says that his clients most certainly had a right to fire Scott, adding, "He's dead wrong and he knows it. The band had no choice."
STP, whose hits include "Interstate Love Song" and "Vasoline," says Scott can't even call himself a former member of the band and is using its songs without permission.
So why did Robert, Dean and Eric decide to kick Scott to the curb in the first place? According to AP, "They cited him being late to concerts and poor performances as some of the reasons for his ouster."
What a mess. We pity the ones who have to sort this whole thing out.

"I have been affected by gossip and I know people who have been, too. I've seen marriages destroyed by gossip. It is cruel. At the end of the day, all that matters is: Do you love what you see when you look in the mirror? That is it, baby." - Actress Jada Pinkett Smith, speaking to Redbook about rumors that she and husband Will Smith's relationship is on the rocks
