Republican Sen. John Kennedy shared his disdain for social media platforms after a video of a transgender couple trying to breastfeed went viral.
Such companies are “nauseously woke” given a perceived double-standard in how they moderate content from liberals and conservatives, the Louisiana senator said.
“What I find curious is why so many of the social media platforms will allow that but won’t allow other things,” Kennedy said Tuesday on Fox News. “Social media is no longer a level playing field. I’m not sure it ever was. But what we’re allowed to see and what we’re allowed to say on social media is being censored, and the people censoring it are the people who run social media, and in many respects, they have turned social media into a killing field for the truth.”

He was responding to a clip from an episode of 9 Months with Courteney Cox, a show that chronicles couples’ efforts to get pregnant. In the clip, a transgender couple described unsuccessfully breastfeeding.
“The baby has been able to latch, but I’ve not been able to produce any milk,” said Petrona, a transgender woman, on the show. “That’s OK because I’m going to supplement the feeding with formula so that my baby is still getting the nutrients that they need, but I’m still feeling hopeful.”
When asked why the video wouldn’t classify as “medical misinformation,” Kennedy called the platforms “woke.”
“What does bother me, the people who run social media are controlling what we are allowed to see and what we are allowed to say. Now, the people who run social media are very smart — I will give them that,” he said. “So was the Unabomber.”
Kennedy’s level of trust in social media companies, he said, is similar to how much he would trust recently released Bill Cosby to be a bartender.
