A Republican lawmaker who voted against a nearly $8 billion relief package for victims of Hurricane Harvey had a playful response after he was called a colorful term on social media.

"Wow, what a piece of shit," the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce wrote of Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., in a tweet Wednesday.

"Well, I'm not crazy about the bill either, but I don't know if I would call it that," Massie responded on Twitter.

The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce has since apologized for the Tweet, saying an employee of a marketing firm who manages their Twitter account was responsible for the link and that he intended to post it to his personal account.

"The personal comment in no way reflects the views of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce or that of Scooter Media broadly," Shannan Boyer, president of Scooter Media, said in a statement.

Boyter told Cinncinatti.com the employee has personally apologized to Massie and has been suspended pending further inquiry.

Massie recently told the Washington Examiner he enjoys personally responding to critics on Twitter using a hashtag #SassywithMassie.
