Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., joked about trying to ride a "boogie board" to Washington, D.C., Wednesday after his journey from Charleston to Capitol Hill was delayed by bad weather.

"Flights from Charleston to D.C. cancelled. Alternative transportation methods unsuccessful. #BoogieBoardsAreForTheBeach," the South Carolina Republican wrote on Twitter with a video of his attempt to surf on 2-4 inches of snow behind a car.

In the footage, Scott can be seen falling from his board and tumbling in the powder.

The East Coast of the U.S. is currently being battered by a "bomb cyclone" winter storm, a meteorological term used to describe a mid-latitude cyclone that intensifies rapidly.

The weather event has pummeled parts of the country with snow, ice, flooding, strong winds, and low temperatures.
