The trial for a German man charged with murdering his much older socialite wife has been postponed until December, according to court records.

Albrecht Muth, 48, is charged with first-degree murder in the August 2011 beating and strangulation death of 91-year-old Viola Drath, an veteran D.C. journalist. His trial had been scheduled to begin Monday in D.C. Superior Court but was postponed last week after a doctor said the defendant was too week to stand or sit on his own.

Muth has gone on hunger strikes and has been eating on and off since 2011.

The trial has been rescheduled for Dec. 2, according to court records.

Judge Russell Canan has suggested that the trial could move forward even if Muth was not physically present.
