President Trump expressed surprise over what he described as a "good story" in the Washington Post about him and Republican donors.
"Can't believe I finally got a good story in the @washingtonpost," Trump tweeted Saturday morning. "It discusses the enthusiasm of "Trump" voters through campaign contributions. The RNC is taking in far more $'s than the Dems, and much of it by my wonderful small donors. I am working hard for them!"
...contributions. The RNC is taking in far more $'s than the Dems, and much of it by my wonderful small donors. I am working hard for them!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 7, 2017
He appeared to reference a report published by the Post on Friday with the headline: "Trump supporters eager to ‘drain the swamp' help fill Republican Party coffers." In it, the story explains that the Republican National Committee is benefiting from Trump's anti-establishment messaging and is collecting more small-donor donations than it has seen in 10 years, giving the GOP an edge over the Democrats as the 2018 midterms approach.
The Post is one of the media outlets Trump has dubbed "fake news" in the past, including a tweet about it as recently as this summer.
