President Trump on Sunday called people who are criticizing his administration's response to the damage caused by Hurricane Maria "politically motivated ingrates."

"We have done a great job with the almost impossible situation in Puerto Rico. Outside of the Fake News or politically motivated ingrates people are now starting to recognize the amazing work that has been done by FEMA and our great Military," Trump tweeted.

"All buildings now inspected for safety. Thank you to the Governor of P.R. and to all of those who are working so closely with our First Responders. Fantastic job!"

The string of tweets comes a day after Trump spent much of the day criticizing Carmen Yulín Cruz, the mayor of San Juan. Cruz has criticized the federal response to the disaster, begging for help for her city in media interviews.

Trump took that criticism personally and alleged Democrats told Cruz she had to be "nasty" to him for a political hit.

However, the humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico is very real. Millions are without access to clean water and the electrical grid is expected to be down and leave residents without power for months.
