President Trump said Monday that it's "unfair" that his former national security adviser Michael Flynn is in trouble for lying to the FBI, while Hillary Clinton lied to the FBI and never got in trouble.

"I feel badly for Gen. Flynn," Trump said at the White House Monday morning as he departed for Utah. "I feel very badly. He's led a very strong life and I feel very badly."

"I will say this. Hillary Clinton lied many times to the FBI, nothing happened to her," he said. "Flynn lied and they've destroyed his life. I think it's a shame."

Flynn admitted he lied to the FBI about his contacts with Russian officials before President Trump was sworn into office.

Trump said he believes Clinton lied to the FBI during the investigation into her use of a private email server when she was secretary of state. Clinton was interviewed by the FBI in July 2016, and Trump implied that Clinton lied during that interview.

"Hillary Clinton on the Fourth of July weekend went to the FBI, not under oath, it was the most incredible thing anyone's ever seen," he said. "She lied many times. Nothing happened to her."

"Flynn lied, and it's like they ruined his life. Very unfair," he said.
