President Trump said Tuesday's attack that killed eight people in New York City was committed by a "sick and deranged person."

Trump tweeted as New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that the truck plowing through a Manhattan bike path was "an act of terror." Police said they have one suspect in custody.

"In NYC, looks like another attack by a very sick and deranged person. Law enforcement is following this closely. NOT IN THE U.S.A.!" Trump tweeted.

Vice President Mike Pence tweeted several minutes later, that he was "saddened by the tragedy in NYC. Our prayers are w/the victims, their families & first responders. Those responsible must be held accountable."

The White House said chief of staff John Kelly was keeping Trump updated.
