After weeks of firing off statements critical of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, President Trump sang his praises on Saturday following an announcement by the Department of Justice about its plan to crack down on leakers.

"After many years of leaks going on in Washington, it is great to see the A.G. taking action! For National Security, the tougher the better!" Trump tweeted.

Sessions said Friday that the Justice Department is moving in full force to investigate and prosecute government leakers. The announcement came a day after transcripts of President Trump's calls with two foreign leaders were leaked.

In the weeks before the sudden display of approval, Trump has repeatedly been critical of Sessions for taking "weak" positions on leakers and recusing himself from the investigation looking into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Trump has said he would have picked another person to lead DOJ had he known Sessions would recuse himself.

Multiple lawmakers stood by Sessions amid Trump's pointed accusations, and new White House Chief of Staff John Kelly assured Sessions that his job was secure.
