President Trump complained Thursday that the journalists who reported Secretary of State Rex Tillerson threatened to resign never reached out to him for comment.
"Rex Tillerson never threatened to resign. This is Fake News put out by @NBCNews. Low news and reporting standards. No verification from me," Trump tweeted Thursday morning.
On Wednesday, NBC reported that Tillerson was unhappy working under Trump in July and threatened not to return to work during a trip to Texas for his son's wedding.
The report also stated Tillerson called his boss a "fucking moron."
Tillerson denied on Wednesday that he had threatened to leave his administration post, but dodged questions about whether he called Trump a "moron." A State Department spokesperson later said the insult was never made.
"The White House declined to comment on the record for this story," NBC said in its report.
Tillerson and Trump have continued to clash over foreign policy. Trump tweeted over the weekend that Tillerson had a private, direct channel to North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, but criticized Tillerson and said that approach would not bring about progress.
Trump also tweeted Thursday about about the state of the American economy.
"Stock Market hits an ALL-TIME high! Unemployment lowest in 16 years! Business and manufacturing enthusiasm at highest level in decades!" he wrote.
