President Trump talked on the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday about issues, including the threat posed by North Korea, which continues to develop its missile and nuclear weapons programs.
“The two presidents also discussed working together to resolve the very dangerous situation in North Korea,” according to a statement from the Office of the White House press secretary.
The statement also said Trump thanked Putin for “acknowledging America’s strong economic performance” during an annual press conference.
A statement from the Kremlin indicated the U.S. initiated the call.
Pyongyang launched its seventh missile test late last month and claimed the test used a new type of ballistic missile. Experts were concerned that the test demonstrated an increasing capability of striking the entire U.S. mainland.
