President Trump announced Sunday he will visit hurricane-ravaged Texas "soon" to inspect the damage caused by the weather system.

"I will be going to Texas as soon as that trip can be made without causing disruption," Trump tweeted. "The focus must be life and safety."

Hurricane Harvey, which made landfall over southeastern Texas late Friday night as a Category 4 storm, has so far claimed at least two lives.

While hurricane winds have slowed to that of a tropical storm, the system is not expected to abide until Thursday.

Earlier, Trump praised emergency services for their efforts during one of the "worst" natural disasters to hit the U.S.

The president is also due to make an appearance in Missouri this coming week to talk about tax reform.

"I will also be going to a wonderful state, Missouri, that I won by a lot in '16," Trump tweeted Sunday. "Dem C.M. is opposed to big tax cuts. Republican will win S!"
