President Trump Sunday tried to pin the blame for increasing healthcare costs in government exchanges set up through the Affordable Care Act on Democrats, despite his decision to stop payments that kept premiums down earlier htis month.

"As usual, the ObamaCare premiums will be up (the Dems own it), but we will Repeal & Replace and have great Healthcare soon after Tax Cuts!" Trump tweeted.

The declarations that "the Dems own it" comes after Republicans failed three times to repeal and replace, or at least reform, the Affordable Care Act in 2017. The House passed a repeal bill in the spring, but Senate Republicans have been unable to get on board with a final bill.

Trump has promised to repeal and replace Obamacare for months and his legislative director, Marc Short, has said he believes the votes are there to do so. However, the effort is put on the back burner while tax reform takes precedence on Capitol Hill.
