Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley named two Smiths to top transportation jobs on Wednesday.
James T. "Jim" Smith Jr., the former county executive of Baltimore County, will serve as the state secretary of transportation.
Robert Smith will head the Maryland Transit Administration.
He will be taking the place of Ralign Wells, who is moving to the state's aviation administration to lead transportation services.
Both Smiths will take their positions on June 10, according to the governor's office. Officials had been trying to fill the secretary slot since Beverley Swaim-Staley stepped down in July. She is now heading the Union Station Redevelopment Corp.
