On Thursday, Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va, stepped down as House Majority Leader. Later this month, he'll leave Congress altogether.

Cantor will reportedly step down from his post as Virginia's 7th district congressman Aug. 18, and according the the Richmond Times-Dispatch, he's requesting the special election to fill his seat coincide with election day, Nov. 4.

Randolph-Macon College Economics Professor Dave Brat, who pulled off the stunning primary upset to unseat Cantor in June, says he's ready to run.
