Each day in the United States, 22 veterans commit suicide. On Thursday, Congressman Jeff Miller, R-Fla., introduced legislation to combat the disturbing trend.

Miller's bill, which will join a Senate bill introduced earlier this year, focuses on the Department of Veterans Affairs' handling of soldiers returning with post-traumatic stress disorder. Miller said Thursday more needs to be done within the agency to prevent veterans from taking their lives upon returning home.

Before the legislation was announced, the House Veterans Affairs committee held a hearing to discuss the alarming number of suicides with families whose children have taken their lives.
