The Senate Judiciary Committee met Tuesday to discuss S.1696, also known as the Women's Health Protection Act of 2013. The bill would make it illegal for states to limit or restrict access to abortions or abortion clinics over other comparable procedures.

The bill's Democratic sponsors believe it will help protect women's health from legislative overreach and make it easier for women to make their own health choices.

Republicans say the bill is an example of the federal government overreaching into state affairs.
