Comedian Jay Leno asked President Obama Tuesday night about the new “bromance” that he was having with Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

“I remember you two had that lover’s quarrel for a while and oh, now you’re best friends!” Leno joked.

“That’s how a classic romantic comedy goes, right?” Obama replied. “You know, initially you’re not getting along, and then you keep on bumping into each other.”

Obama praised McCain as “a person of integrity” who was “willing to say things regardless of the politics,” and praised his work with Democrats on immigration reform.

“I think that he deserves credit for being somebody who’s willing to go against the grain of his own party sometimes,” Obama continued. “It’s probably not good for me to compliment him on television.”
