Patio umbrellas are like outdoor window treatments, adding ambiance and personality to outdoor spaces. Emilysumbrellas.com/">Emily's Umbrellas in Winchester, Va., offers single-sided and reversible outdoor umbrellas that can be personalized, such as with a photo or favorite print.
"You can design them yourself," said owner Emily Seiler, adding that she simply needs a high-resolution JPEG file to transfer the design onto fabric.
Fade-resistant and water-repellent umbrellas come with ruffled or scalloped designs, a choice of Ramen wood or aluminum frames. Prices begin at $350 and get up to more than $1,400, depending on size, frame, fabric and whether it is reversible.
Emily's received a patent for the reversible design in 2011, and was voted Best Outdoor Product at the Capital Home & Garden Show.
Seiler says she has created umbrellas with everything from large zebra prints to brilliant red poppies. "People are just having a blast with it," she said.
