The Wall Street Journal attempted to contain the spread of the full unpublished transcript of an interview it conducted with President Trump before it was leaked by Politico on Tuesday.

During a recent conference call, Matt Murray, the deputy editor-in-chief at the Journal, warned against leaking the transcript. He described such an action as a breach of trust, people familiar with the call told Politico.

"Damn right I told them that. It's true," Murray said on Tuesday, according to a Journal spokesperson.

The report said that the full transcript of the interview, part of which had been published by the Journal, had been making the rounds not only in the Journal's newsroom, but also among other people in New York and Washington.

The interview, part of which was reported on July 25, included a lengthy exchange between Trump and Wall Street Journal editor-in-chief Gerard Baker.
