CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin confused Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, with actor Joaquin Phoenix on air Tuesday after speaking with the lawmaker earlier in the day.
Baldwin was discussing Castro's reaction to White House chief of staff John Kelly's controversial comments on immigration when she flubbed the lawmaker's name, saying instead the name of the Golden Globe-winning actor.
Shortly afterwards, the CNN host corrected herself.
"Democratic congressman Joaquin Phoenix, uhm, calling it callous what the chief of staff has said about a number of people in this country illegally, but first. ... uh Joaquin Castro, sorry about that," Baldwin said.
White House chief of staff John Kelly suggested Tuesday that illegal immigrants were "too afraid" or "too lazy" to sign up for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, according to audio posted by the Washington Post.
The controversial comments sparked outrage among many Democrats. Castro, speaking with Baldwin earlier in the afternoon, said the Trump administration "needlessly callous and disrespectful."
