Former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama departed Washington, D.C., Friday afternoon, moments after the transfer of power as President Trump took the oath of office.

The new president and first lady Melania Trump accompanied the Obamas from the Capitol building to the waiting Marine helicopter, officially titled Executive One for the short ride to Joint Base Andrews.

The Obamas were headed to Palm Springs after the inauguration. They will return to reside in the Washington neighborhood of Kalorama while their youngest daughter Sasha finishes high school.
