Protesters began shouting out from the Senate gallery as lawmakers began their vote on the Republican tax overhaul bill Tuesday night.

"Kill the bill," the demonstrators chanted.

After a few moments Vice President Mike Pence, who was presiding over the vote, called on the sergeant at arms to restore order.

Soon after, Senate Republicans passed their major overhaul of the tax code, including a $1.5 trillion tax cut, leaving only the House to vote one last time on it Wednesday morning before the legislation is sent to President Trump’s desk for his signature.

All Democrats in the Senate voted against it; same as in the House.
