Zombie Fest at the Half Street Fairgrounds Saturday

What is it that makes zombies so appealing?

Maybe it's the simple life, just walking around looking for a bite to eat.

"What's fun is you're dead, and all you want to do is eat brains," joked Shane Pomajambo, owner of the Art Whino Gallery in National Harbor.

On Saturday, Art Whino is teaming up with the folks from the Arlington Cinema 'n' Drafthouse to throw a Zombie Fest at the Half Street Fairgrounds in D.C. And when the organizers say it's a Zombie Fest, they aren't kidding. Saturday's fun will feature screenings of zombie themed movies such as "Shaun of the Dead," zombie games, a zombie obstacle course, something called a zombie factory, food trucks, drinks, live music and more.

According to Pomajambo, it was, well, a no-brainer to have the event on Saturday as opposed to Halloween night proper.

"We wanted to make it an evening out," Pomajambo said. "It's a little bit easier to do an event on the weekend."

This is the first teaming between the minds at Drafthouse and Art Whino, and there may be more to come.

"The whole idea is, D.C. is a relatively small place," Pomajambo said. "We're trying to bring these two circles together."

With shows like AMC's "The Walking Dead" reflecting the popularity of zombies, the time is ripe for a celebration of the undead.

"That's why zombies are so popular," Pomajambo said. "You can go to a Zombie Fest and let your hair down."

When: 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday.
