Had the unemployment numbers released Friday morning showed a decline in jobs, President Obama and his team at the White House would have likely blamed the Republican-led government shutdown for the disruption to the economy.

With unemployment at a five-year low, however, the White House took a different spin.

"Today’s report was yet another reminder of the resilience of America’s private sector following the disruptive government shutdown and debt limit brinksmanship in the first half of October," noted Jason Furman, the White House Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers.
