White House Press Secretary Jay Carney today described President Obama's uncle and his deportation hearing as a "a legal matter," and said reporters should direct their questions to the Justice Department.
Onyango Obama, the half brother of President Obama's father, was to have a hearing today at the U.S. Immigration Court in Boston.
Carney insisted to White House reporters he had not discussed the case with Obama.
"I have no conversations like that to read out," Carney said. "I have not discussed it with him so I do not know."
Onyango Obama was ordered deported in 1992, but his immigration status resurfaced in 2011, when he was arrested in Massachusetts for drunk driving.
