The White House has released its own photos of President Trump meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, a day after the Russians released their own photos.
The photos of Trump and Lavrov surfaced on the White House flickr account Thursday.
The Twitter account of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a photo Wedensday of Trump shaking hands with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The account of the Russian embassy also posted a photo of Trump with Ambassador Sergei Kislyak.
The White House photos do not show Trump with Kislyak, the ambassador whose calls with former national security adviser Mike Flynn led to Flynn's ouster. Neither the White House schedule nor the subsequent readout from the White House mentioned Kislyak.
Reporters were not allowed in during the meeting, though the White House said they allowed in official photographers.
A White House official accused Russian officials of lying about who the Russian photographer was after the photos appeared on a state news agency. "They tricked us," an unnamed White House official told CNN. "That's the problem with the Russians — they lie."
