Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., claimed that a Republican leader told President Obama he couldn't "stand to look at him," but the president's spokesman said that the exchange never took place.

That conversation "did not happen," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters when asked if any Republican said those words to Obama.

Asked if anything similar to the encounter described by Durbin took place, Carney replied that he wasn't aware of such a scene.

Durbin made the accusation on Sunday. "[I]n a 'negotiation' meeting with the president, one GOP House Leader told the president: 'I cannot even stand to look at you,'" he posted on Facebook. "What are the chances of an honest conversation with someone who has just said something so disrespectful?"
