A 27-year-old D.C. woman has been charged with second-degree murder after police found her husband shot dead inside the couple's apartment.

Police went to the home of Dianna and Christopher Lalchan just after midnight on Thursday in the 1200 block of 4th Street SW after Dianna called a 911 and said she had killed her husband, according to court documents.

She was charged and arraigned in D.C. Superior Court on Friday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

She told officers that she and Christopher had been married for four years, but claimed she had been abused by her husband during that time. Christopher called her to come home on Wednesday, and when she did, the two engaged in several arguments. She said Christopher placed one .40 caliber gun on the television stand in the living room to make her "feel safe," according to court documents, and as he walked away from the stand she picked up the pistol and fired it at him three times.

She told police she was scared her husband would attack her.

When police arrived at the scene, they found Christopher dead in the living room with a gunshot wound to the back of the head. They also found shell casings near his feet, in the hallway near a bedroom door and on top of an air mattress in the living room that was several feet from Christopher. No further information was available.

Police found four guns in the home -- none of which were registered to Dianna or Christopher. Police also did not report seeing any injuries on her body, though Dianna said she was not physically assaulted the night of the shooting.

There are no court records of any documented complaints of abuse between the couple.
