The participants in the wackiest special election in recent years -- former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford and comedian Stephen Colbert's sister, Elizabeth Colbert Busch -- will be going toe-to-toe for an evening at a debate sponsored by a local affiliate in South Carolina. The debate will take place at 7 p.m. April 29 at the Citadel's Holliday Alumni Center.

Yeas & Nays independently confirmed that both candidates will participate. The South Carolina Radio Network will be partnering with Patch to broadcast audio to affiliates around the state, but plans are in the works to webcast the debate as well.

Sanford hasn't had the best week in politics with news breaking that his ex-wife, Jenny Sanford, recently accused him of trespassing at her home. In addition, Politico reports that the National Republican Congressional Committee has decided not to spend any more money on the race.

Voters in South Carolina's 1st Congressional District head to the polls on May 7.
