A Prince William County teacher was charged after she belatedly reported allegations of sexual abuse, police said.
Esther Geovanni Castillo, 46, a teacher at Marumsco Hills Elementary School, is charged with the civil offense of failure to report suspected abuse to authorities, Prince William County police said.
On March 30, two students independently approached Castillo to report separate alleged sexual abuse incidents with separate suspects, police said. The students reported the alleged incidents following a school presentation called “Hugs and Kisses,” which teaches kids about good and bad touches.
Teachers in Virginia are required to report suspected abuse to proper authorities within 72 hours, but Castillo did not report the abuse to school authorities or Child Protective Services until April 12, officials said.
