Cardi B’s rant on shutdown goes viral — with the help of a trio of Democratic lawmakers

Rapper Cardi B didn’t hold back while slamming President Trump Wednesday after many federal government employees returned to work without pay.

“Now, I know a lot of y’all don’t care because y’all don’t work for the government or y’all probably don’t even have a job, but this shit is really fucking serious bro, this shit is crazy,” she told her almost 40 million Instagram followers. “Our country is in a hellhole right now all for a fucking wall.”

The comments from the entertainer, who was born Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar, come after some federal employees, including much of the Internal Revenue Service’s staff, were ordered back to work without knowing whether they would be compensated on schedule.

Cardi B later Wednesday seemed surprised her video set social media alight.

“Why am I trending?” she wrote on Twitter.

Among those talking about her included a trio of Senate Democrats who publicly debated sharing her message online.

“(Trying to decide whether or not to retweet the Cardi B video),” Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, wrote.

“Omg, I had the same argument with myself 30 minutes ago!” Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., replied.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer also chimed into the conversation.

“Guys, I’m still holding my breath. Are you gonna RT Cardi B or not?” the New York Democrat tweeted.

The ongoing Dec. 22 partial government shutdown on Wednesday entered its 26th day. The funding gap was created when congressional Democrats refused to meet Trump’s demand for $5.7 billion to build his proposed southern border wall. Democrats on Capitol Hill would prefer to see the government reopened while lawmakers continue to discuss border security measures.
